Upper Elementary School Teacher (Grades 3, 4, or 5)

ACS Athens, a student-centered international school, embracing American educational philosophy, principles and values, is seeking to recruit an Elementary School Homeroom teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. The teacher reports to the Elementary School Principal.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provides learning experiences while creating an environment that is conducive to student learning and  involvement
  • Demonstrates positive and effective classroom management skills;
  • Monitors students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate;
  • Evaluates, utilizes innovative approaches, and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies available to teachers such as interactive boards, to increase student learning, involvement, and confidence to learn for the social, emotional, and academic well – being;
  • Demonstrates appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning;
  • Demonstrates compassion and patience for student progress particularly when reporting to colleagues and parents
  • Maintains and improves professional competence through attendance of professional development events;
  • Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade /team/ department;
  • Plans for student field trips that are aligned with the existing curriculum;
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Skills:

  • Knowledgeable with best practices, flexible, confident, and adaptable skills teaching Grades K-5;
  • Skilled in instructional interventions, behavioral strategies and confident in special education identification;
  • Knowledgeable with age-appropriate concepts and skills for children during various stages of development;
  • Knows how to monitor student progress and prepare engaging lesson plans and activities.

Qualifications:

  • US Teaching License or equivalent in Elementary Education;
  • Academic degrees from an accredited University/College in Elementary Education;
  • At least two years of relevant teaching experience, required;
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate, both orally and written, in English to students;
  • Competent in the use of technology for professional  and educational use;
  • Currently contributing to US Social Security and FICA tax, preferred;
  • Display commitment to safeguarding and protection of children.
