The Dogs in Learning Program  (DiL Program) has been a part of ACS Athens Elementary School pedagogy for over a decade. It is a uniquely designed curriculum from the Petsavers Foundation in Collaboration with Yale University School of the 21st Century (Yale 21C). The research-based lessons focus on “the natural affinity between kids and pets to teach social-emotional learning (SEL) skills critical to academic success and a successful life.”

This year, the DiL Program focuses on JK through Second Grade students. It will provide them with a series of lessons that revolve around empathy and related social-emotional skills. The program aims to strengthen children’s self-and social awareness, relationship skills, and ability to make ethical decisions. Such skills are essential for children’s development and can also enhance academic achievement. At ACS Athens, we never stop finding fun and innovative ways to educate our students
