Why Math Competitions are Important

On November 10th, 2022, ACS Athens hosted the American Mathematical competitions AMC10 and AMC 12. Approximately 70 students in grades 9-12 participated in both competitions.

It is an honor to announce that ACS Athens 9th-grader, Dimitrios Vlachakis has won an invitation to participate in AIME, the American Invitational Mathematics Examination, after his stellar performance on AMC 10. This is an amazing achievement as these invitations are issued to only 2.5% of student participants of AMC 10 worldwide. AIME is the first qualifying stage for the US Mathematics Olympiad Team.

Math competitions offer a route for students to demonstrate their intellectual capacity and commitment to the field in a challenging, fun, and structured environment. These are all skills and qualities that are highly valued by selective colleges and universities. Students will also develop important computational and critical thinking skills that will be valuable throughout their lives.

We wish Dimitri the best of luck on his upcoming AIME examination.
