Learning Enhancement After School Programs

Welcome to the 2022-2023 Academic School Year. Now that the dust has settled and students have found their pace for the year, we would like to make you aware of the great wealth of resources and support that the Learning Commons has to offer our students free of charge. The Learning Commons provides our students and faculty with state-of-the-art facilities, such as a media studio, a math and science studio, a writing/research studio, an incubator of students’ creative ideas, a library, and more. These spaces are staffed with professionals who have expertise in the fields of Mathematics, Sciences, Writing, Research, Literacy, STEAM education, and Media. It is a privilege for our students to have the ability to visit the studios anytime Monday through Friday between 9am and 5pm (with the exception of Wednesday 9am - 3:45pm) to receive supplemental assistance that will enhance, inspire, and guide our students in all the various fields of mathematics, science, writing and research, beyond the classroom. The Learning Commons is an area where students and faculty function as architects of their own learning as they pursue their intellectual curiosities. The Learning Commons is the heartbeat of education at ACS Athens.

Additionally, the Learning Commons also offers additional support through the Learning Enhancement Program (LEP), a paid program, available if there are instances where a student requires more regular small group focused instruction. The LEP strives to provide the individual assistance necessary for each student to achieve academic success in their area of focus. We enthusiastically provide the qualified personnel necessary for your child to succeed and an atmosphere conducive to learning for our students. This year, we have emphasized our efforts towards developing the LEP: After School Homework Support Program, where small groups of at least four students work towards a common goal; whether that be homework completion, mathematics, science or increasing literacy skills and more. Students may choose to enroll in the program for a semester or a year, with the opportunity to receive the necessary aid to maximize their skills for success and exit the program as successful independent learners. The Coordinator of the Program, Ms. Sophia Pappas, currently works in the Learning Commons, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree from New York University, in Political Science and Classical Civilizations & Hellenic Studies, as well as a Law Degree from Pace University in New York. This is her second year coordinating the program and we are very happy to report that last year's program proved to be quite successful.

If you have any additional questions, please contact Ms. Sophia Pappas, email: pappass@acs.gr. We look forward to working with you and your child.
