The International Youth Basketball Tournament, in memory of Diana W. Tamari and Hasib J. Sabbagh, took place this past weekend after a two-year absence, and it was a great weekend for our boys and girls varsity teams. An event made possible by the support of  Mr. Suhail Sabbagh and Mr. Samir Sabbagh provides the opportunity for our teams to prepare as they are heading to their end-of-season championships.

It was really exciting to bring back the international "flavor" in the ACS Athens sports scene: ACS Cobham (England), AIS Bucharest (Romania), Pinewood (Thessaloniki) and St. Lawrence competed with our ACS Athens; there was fierce competition among all teams and our gym was once again lively with spectators throughout the event. In addition, an exhibition game was held between our full Girls Varsity team and a selection team of girls from the region of Attica; it was an opportunity to showcase top-level girls basketball!

Congratulations to the ACS Athens boys for their first place after a tough final against the ACS Cobham team- what a game! Great effort by the girls varsity team throughout the event as they fell short of reaching the finals. Individually, our players received recognition by being selected on the all-star teams and by winning the skills contests; specifically:

  • All star selection: Stelios Martzoukos, Emanuel Epongo and Pinelopi Feida;
  • Free throw Contest winners: Iordanis Mygdalis and Adamantia Kaskaveli.
